Seminar Objectives:
In each of these seminars, we will be teaching valuable skills in mapping, research, and data collection. We hope to have professionals in the field of mapping and missions come and share their experience with us as guest speakers. In addition, we hope to address the following topics during our 2 weeks together:

  • Mapping in Missions
    • Addressing the need for mapping at city, regional, and global levels of missions.
    • Looking at case studies of how maps are being used in the Body of Christ.

  • Using GIS
    • GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a highly advanced computer mapping software that we will be providing for the discounted rate of $100. This is a one-year license for you to work with, after which time your ministry can decide if you'd like to subscribe to your own permanent license.
    • Taking daily lab times to learn the basic skills needed to use GIS software to the fullest. This software will give you tracking and 3D capabilities, and will set a platform for you to make any kind of map, whether it's printed or digital.
    • Web-based GIS: tracking your ministry activity online, as well as learning Google Earth integration.

  • Research and Data Collection
    • Learning about research methods in the missions field.
    • Keeping good records.
    • GPS (Global Positioning System) technology.
    • We will also take some field trips into the local community to do our own data collection.

  • Personal Application
    • Helping to apply mapping to your ministry or project as the seminar is running. We want you to leave the seminar with a foundational map to work off of when you return to your office.
    • You will walk away with map data, internet links, and support services to support the work you’ll be doing after the seminar.

These skills are beneficial to our missionaries in so many ways. If you are interested in having your ministry or project represented at one of these seminars, it would be a good idea to send a participant who would take on the project of mapping after the seminar is over. It is also required that he/she bring a laptop with the Windows operating system (as our GIS software can only run on Windows).
